Nine Weeks Until Christmas

With summer fast approaching, getting your watering strategy sorted right now is the absolute best way to protect your plants from the upcoming heat.

Here are our top tips to keep your garden thriving as the temperature rises:

  • Audit Your Irrigation: Check that all your sprinklers are working efficiently and ensure your watering timers are set correctly for the warmer days ahead.

  • Establish a Routine: If you don't have an automated system, remember to maintain a regular watering pattern. Watering in the morning is best so plants can utilise the moisture throughout the day.

  • Water Deeply, Not Shallowly: Deeper watering encourages deep, resilient roots, whereas quick, shallow watering leaves your plants weak and prone to drying out quickly.

  • Care for New vs. Potted Plants: Newly planted areas need daily watering at first before gradually tapering off. For pots, check them again in the afternoon on extreme days, as container soil heats up and dries out rapidly.

  • Prep Your Soil & Mulch: Water will run straight off dry, poor soil. Boost water retention by working compost into your beds, applying a soil wetting agent, and topping up with a fresh layer of mulch to lock in moisture.
